A return; going back to go forward
We are lovers of all things old. Old trees, old roses, old windows, old buildings… you name it. We didn’t initially have this reverence for the things that have been here much longer than us, but apparently growing up will do that you. It’s really the old things that help you understand how small you are in the scheme of existence.
This greater philosophy on life has influenced a new iteration of business for us - one that prioritizes choices and buildings that will outlast us and take care of this gentle planet that has allowed us to call it home. The joy of it all is that it isn’t a new building method or AI technology, it’s simply returning to the methods and means that our ancestors used. We think that is why timber framing evokes such awe and delight in so many people, it speaks to this ancestral knowledge we all have, a piece of us sleeping, tucked away in our family tree that is excitedly awoken when we get to witness such structures. We can speak from personal experience that we have never seen so many men gleefully smile or women awe struck by construction as we have since timber framing.
We also believe in the power of home - spaces and buildings that give you the sense of security and belonging, like your favorite worn out jeans or your grandfather’s coat. We feel it is our duty to create timeless spaces that are effortlessly beautiful and capable of changing and evolving as new families and generations move through, and through this ensure that we are using materials that are renewable, repairable, and gentle enough for children and our planet.
